The Career

Tell us a little about your job:

The hours are long and some days are tougher than others. That being said, I have never had a more gratifying job. The hard work and tough days pay off when you see the impact you have on your fellow employees. From setting up their days to run efficiently so they aren’t out until dark, to the behind the scenes things like saving a customer a few more dollars on their bill.

What does your average day look like?

My average day starts out with seeing the needs of my technicians and making sure they have everything to get their day started. The middle part of my day is spent seeing to the needs of our customers. My day usually ends with checking in on our technicians, answering phones and decompressing from the day before the drive home in rush hour traffic.

Share a notable experience you have had at work:

I’ll share an experience I had at the Massey Services Eagle Pinnacle Awards Banquet a few years ago. My wife and I always stay the extra night and this was a couple of months after I was promoted to service manager. So after work, my wife and I made the drive to the resort. We arrived early evening and as we walk into the entrance of the resort I see Ed Dougherty walking up the stairs. I just assumed he wouldn’t recognize me so I was ready to go to the desk and check into our room. Before I could even turn to head to the desk he yells “Chad!! It’s really good to see you! So glad you guys could make it!” as he totally changed course from where he was going to come over and greet us. He shook my hand and gave me a hug. I introduced him to my wife who put out her hand to shake his & he says “I’m sorry Jaimie, but at Massey Services we don’t do handshakes we do hugs.” and he gave her a big hug. This is a man that I had only spoken briefly to when I went to corporate for my service manager interviews for the service manager position probably 4 months earlier. I didn’t think about it much at the time but after seeing how much the Masseys, Ed & the rest of the executive team care about their Team Members, enough to put on an awards banquet at one of the nicest resorts in Orlando, it touched me that he was thoughtful enough to remember me after such a brief meeting. By far the coolest thing that has ever happened to me at any company I have worked for.

Who do you look to for inspiration?

I love my God. He makes me want to be a better father, a better husband, a better Team Member and a better person.

What motivates you to wake up & go to work?

I would have to say that my family is the reason I do everything I do. I received custody of my amazing daughters: Celeste, Ciarra & Braylynn back in 2008 & was a single dad until I married my wife, Jaimie, in 2013. Those people are the most important things in my life. There is nothing I wouldn’t do to provide them with the best lives possible. God willing I will continue to do that for them while working for the best owners in the industry at Massey Services, Inc.

Thank You Chad Young!

Massey Services thanks Chad for his determination and positive attitude. He cares about not only his customers but also his fellow employees and managers. His resolve for self-improvement has made him into the great professional he is today. He truly deserves to be in this month’s Team Member Spotlight.
