2024 Harvey L. Massey Team Member of the Year Award Winner
GROVETOWN, GA – For Thomas Detwyler, being a Service Manager at Massey Services isn’t just a job — it’s a calling built on quality, honesty, and dependability. With seven years of dedication to our company, Detwyler was honored with one of our most prestigious accolades: the Harvey L. Massey Team Member of the Year Award.
“It was truly an amazing evening,” Detwyler said, reflecting on the annual Eagle Circle Awards Banquet held in February at the JW Marriott Orlando, Grande Lakes where he was recognized. “It was very special to be acknowledged for hard work and dedication.”
A native of Augusta, Detwyler now calls nearby Grovetown home. His journey with Massey Services began through the acquisition of Horne’s Pest Control, where he had already established himself as a reliable and driven professional. He chose to stay through the transition — a decision he’s never regretted.
“I’m glad I did,” he said. “It’s a great company to work for.”
Detwyler’s workday is anything but routine. “Every day is different,” he explained. “It’s based on what’s needed each day.” That flexibility is part of what keeps him energized. But what truly drives him is the opportunity to be out in the field, working closely with his team of technicians.
“The best part of my job is being with my techs — training and helping them to be the best at what they do,” he said.
That team-first mindset, combined with his focus on professional growth, is what makes Detwyler a standout. Over the years, he’s acquired a wide array of skills, including inventory management, product ordering, customer service, leadership development, and earning his Certified Operators License.
“The growth I’ve experienced through my time with Massey, and the recognition of a job well done — that’s what makes this career truly unique,” he said.
When asked who he admires professionally, Detwyler offered a simple yet inspiring answer: “Anyone who has achieved their dreams and goals — and is helping others grow.”
And that sentiment is more than just words. It’s how Thomas Detwyler lives and leads every day.
When he’s not working, Detwyler is committed to giving back to the community and supports a variety of charities and non-profit organizations in and around Augusta. This includes the Freedom Theater Group, Pictures of Life Productions, the Shriners Club, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter, triathlon events, and providing Thanksgiving dinners for the homeless in the 13th Street bridge area of Augusta, GA. In fact, when it was reported that two patients were being bitten by ants at a Georgia Hospice facility, he provided a free service and resolved the issue immediately.
And in an example of Detwyler going above and beyond, his manager shared the following story. Thomas was scheduled to meet a customer one day and when he arrived at the home, the customer wasn’t there. He called the customer and found out they had run out of gas and was now stranded on the highway. Without thinking twice, he got gas and met the customer on the highway, and then followed him home so he could provide the service.
Thank you Thomas, for going above and beyond for our customers and being a shining example of why it’s our people that MAKE A DIFFERENCE! Learn more about our career opportunities and how you can be a part of the Massey team!
