Harvey L. Massey

Harvey L. Massey is an industry leader with over 57 years of experience in the service business in public and privately owned companies. He began his career in February 1963 with Rollins Inc. (Orkin Pest Control) and was systematically promoted to management, senior management and executive management positions. Within 11 years, he became the youngest Vice President in Orkin’s history. After 16 years at Orkin, he joined Terminix International as Senior VP of Operations; then in 1985, Mr. Massey purchased Walker Chemical and Exterminating Company in Orlando, Florida. At the time, the company had reported annual revenues of $3.9 million and was comprised of four service centers in Florida.  He renamed the company Massey Services, Inc. in January 1987.

Today under Mr. Massey’s leadership, Massey Services has grown to the fifth largest pest management company in the nation and the largest privately-held family company in the industry. Massey Services is a $290 million company with over 167 service centers in Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, South Carolina, North Carolina, Texas, Virginia and Oklahoma and approximately 2,500 team members. In 2020 the company celebrated its 35th consecutive year of profitable growth.


Mr. Massey is an acknowledged leader in the pest management industry. In 1992 he received the ICI/Pest Control Technology Industry Leadership Award followed by the PCT Professional of the Year Award in 1998. He served on the Board of Directors and Executive Board of the National Pest Management Association (NPMA) and was the first Chairman of the Professional Pest Management Alliance. He is also a Past Chairman of the Pest Control Research and Advisory Board of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. In October 2008, in recognition of his many contributions, Mr. Massey was inducted into the Pest Management Industry Hall of Fame. In October 2018, Mr. Massey was honored with the Pinnacle Award by the National Pest Management Association (NPMA).  This award is the association’s highest honor and recognizes an individual for their outstanding contributions to both NPMA and the industry.

In addition, Mr. Massey believes in supporting other pest management companies and encourages them to visit Massey Services and work with team members in all divisions of the company.


In 1991, Mr. Massey created Massey Services’ Mission Statement and Guiding Philosophy which includes, “We believe in being a CONTRIBUTING member to our community and our industry.”  Massey Services encourages all team members to participate in community events and become involved with community and charitable organizations that need our support. In addition, the executive and senior management team participate in numerous boards as a result of his encouragement.

Mr. Massey provides an outstanding example for Massey Services, his industry, and the communities his company serves. He is a highly active and visible community leader and gives tirelessly of his time, knowledge and expertise in a variety of board positions.  With a strong focus on education, Mr. Massey has served on the Board of Governors of Stetson University, Rollins College President’s Leadership Council, Board of Directors of Junior Achievement, Board of Directors of the Pontifical Irish College of Rome, Italy, and as the Board Chairman of Rollins College Center for the Advanced Entrepreneurship Program. Additionally, he has served on a variety of boards with a community-based focus.  He is Past Chairman of The Florida Citrus Sports Foundation and the Winter Park Memorial Hospital Foundation Board.  He has served on the Board of Directors for Florida Citrus Sports, the Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Orlando/Orange County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Dr. Phillips, Inc., Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority, Enterprise Florida and Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation.

He currently serves on the Florida Council of 100, is on the Governor’s Council of the Orlando Economic Partnership, and is a Trustee of the United Arts of Central Florida.

As a result of his involvement in the community, Mr. Massey has been recognized by countless organizations and received numerous awards, including the Orange County Citizen of the Year, Orlando’s Most Influential Citizen, the Economic Development Commission’s James B. Greene Award, Florida Citrus Sports’ Howard L. Palmer Award, the Father of the Year Award from the Orlando Father’s Day Council, the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, the Mennello Museum’s Distinguished Service Award and he was inducted as a Laureate in the Junior Achievement Hall of Fame.

Mr. Massey received the prestigious Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans Award in Washington, D.C. in March 2016. This national award is bestowed upon outstanding business, civic and cultural leaders who are committed to philanthropy and higher education. They are dedicated leaders who demonstrate individual initiative and a commitment to excellence as exemplified by remarkable achievements accomplished through honesty, hard work, self-reliance and perseverance over adversity.

Although Harvey and Carol have been unwavering philanthropists for many years, they formed the Harvey and Carol Massey Foundation in 2014 to further solidify their personal and professional commitment and mission of being contributing members to their community.

Harvey and Carol Massey’s philanthropic interests especially in education, arts and culture, human and health services, and community service, is evidenced by their generous gifts to many worthy organizations.

Harvey and Carol Massey have been married for 57 years.  They have three children, ten grandchildren and live in Winter Park, Florida.
