August Team Member Spotlight: Jennifer Schimenti

A Career Built on Opportunity, Growth and People

For Jennifer Schimenti, a career with Massey Services began with a fresh start and a desire to build a stable future for herself and her three children. More than 13 years later, that fresh start has grown into a rewarding career in Human Resources—and a journey that has taken her through several different roles across the company.

A lifelong resident of Ormond Beach, Jennifer currently serves as Human Resources Manager. During her time with Massey Services, she has worked as a Customer Service Specialist, Office Manager and Administrative Trainer before finding her way to HR.

“I never imagined that the job I took to start a new chapter in my life would turn into the career I have today,” Jennifer said.

A Career Rooted in Opportunity

When Jennifer joined Massey Services, she was looking for more than just a job. She wanted a company with a strong foundation, good benefits and opportunities to grow.

She found all three at Massey.

Starting as a Customer Service Specialist in the Daytona Beach office, Jennifer embraced every opportunity to learn and take on new responsibilities. Her career path eventually led her to training and, ultimately, Human Resources.

“After more than 13 years and several very different roles, I have learned more than I could possibly list,” she said.

Those experiences have given Jennifer a broad understanding of the company and its people. Along the way, she has developed expertise in HR systems and Workday, employee relations and workplace investigations while gaining experience in many different areas of the business.

And, of course, working at Massey has provided a few unexpected lessons.

“I’ve also learned more than I ever expected to know about termites, chinch bugs and all things pest prevention!” Jennifer said with a laugh.

Dedicated, Detail-Oriented and Passionate

Jennifer describes her work ethic in three words: dedicated, detail-oriented and passionate. These are qualities that are especially valuable in a Human Resources role.

While an HR manager may start the day with a carefully considered plan, Jennifer knows that plans can change quickly.

“I’m not sure there is such a thing as an average day in HR!” she said. “I usually start the day with a plan and then HR happens.”

Whether she’s addressing an immediate Team Member need, solving a problem, working on a process improvement or handling an investigation, Jennifer takes each challenge as it comes before returning to her original plan.

“One thing I can say for sure is that there is never a dull moment in HR.”

Inspired by Strong Leadership

Throughout her career, Jennifer has found inspiration in leaders who demonstrate both professional excellence and commitment to people. One of those leaders is Jean Nowry, Massey Services’ Executive Vice President and CFO.

Jennifer admires Jean’s ability to balance the many responsibilities she carries within the organization, including Finance, HR, Benefits and the company’s 401(k) program.

“I admire the way she balances making fiscally sound decisions for the company while also making sure we are doing the right thing for our Team Members,” Jennifer said.

Jennifer also appreciates Jean’s commitment to giving back to the community and sees her as an outstanding example of leadership.

“I believe Jean is an amazing role model for women in business and an example of what strong, successful leadership looks like.”

Making a Difference Through HR

For Jennifer, one of the most rewarding aspects of her role is having the opportunity to help others.

“I enjoy helping Team Members, solving problems, developing people, improving processes and being someone others can come to when they need help,” she said.

But the people around her are what make the work especially meaningful.

“The best part of my job is my Team! I genuinely love what I do, and I love that I get to do it alongside such a great group of people.”

Jennifer has also recently expanded her professional involvement in the community after being appointed Vice President of Membership for Volusia/Flagler SHRM, a nonprofit professional association and local affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management. The organization supports HR professionals and the business community throughout Volusia and Flagler counties.

Jennifer looks forward to using the opportunity to become more involved and give back to the HR community.

A Journey Still in Progress

Looking back on more than 13 years with Massey Services, Jennifer sees a career defined by growth, learning and opportunities she never anticipated when she first joined the company.

Her journey from Customer Service Specialist to Office Manager, Administrative Trainer and now Human Resources Manager has allowed her to work with and learn from talented people throughout the organization.

Today, she is proud of how far she has come and grateful for the opportunities Massey has provided along the way. Yet despite everything she has accomplished, Jennifer believes there is still more ahead.

“I’m incredibly proud of how far I’ve come, grateful for the opportunities I’ve had and I still believe my true potential has yet to be reached.”

For Jennifer Schimenti, what began as a new chapter has become a career, with the journey still unfolding.
