Born and raised in Wilmington, North Carolina, Jess now serves the same community with pride, earning praise from both colleagues and customers. His work ethic is best summed up in three words: self-starter, dependable and optimistic. These are qualities that shine through in everything he does.
Jess’s journey with Massey began during an acquisition, but it wasn’t just business as usual. “Tony Massey personally visited our operations center at the beginning of the acquisition,” he recalls. “He took time with the group and answered every question. That personal approach, combined with Massey’s Mission Statement, made joining the team a no-brainer.”
Regional Technician of the Year
Since then, Jess has become a standout member of the team—recognized as Regional Technician of the Year for three consecutive years. He views the accolades with humility. “It’s an honor, but I’ve simply tried to fulfill my responsibilities and give a little more than what customers expect,” he says. “Making a good income is great, but the recognition from Massey Services is the icing on the cake.”
That extra effort hasn’t gone unnoticed. Jess is known for cultivating excellent relationships with customers—often turning service calls into long-term friendships. His approach is simple: treat people like they matter. “I present myself in a way that shows customers they’re important to me. I keep communication open and treat each one like a longtime friend,” he says. “And I always ask for their feedback after each visit.”
A Day in the Life of a Pest Technician
A typical workday for Jess begins with a strategic route plan, balancing efficiency with responsiveness to customer needs. From conducting detailed pest services to picking up litter on a customer’s lawn, Jess goes above and beyond. He ensures clear communication with both clients and the service center and even offers additional solutions when unexpected pest issues arise. “I don’t stop until I’ve completed the work assigned for the day,” he adds.
At the heart of his job is a desire to help people. “Resolving pest issues gives customers the assurance they need to enjoy and protect their homes, families, and property,” he says. It’s that sense of purpose that drives Jess every morning as he puts on his uniform.
Jess also credits Massey Services for setting him up for success. “With years in the service industry, I’ve learned a lot—but Massey provides the resources, education, and support that help me excel,” he says.
