December Team Member Spotlight: Shannon Duffy and Her Heart for Helping Pets in Need

For this monthโ€™s Team Member Spotlight, weโ€™re proud to feature Shannon Duffy, whose dedication to animal welfare shines through her long-standing involvement with Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando. Her commitment to giving backโ€”both inside and outside the workplaceโ€”embodies the true spirit of Massey Services.

About Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando

Originally established in 1937 as the Orlando Humane Society, Pet Alliance has grown to become one of the regionโ€™s oldest and largest animal welfare organizations. Serving Orange, Seminole, Osceola, and portions of Brevard, Lake, and Volusia counties, the organization is widely recognized as the โ€œgo-toโ€ expert in Greater Orlando for helping dogs, cats and the people who love them.

With more than 5,000 homeless pets seeking shelter, food and medical care each year, Pet Alliance focuses on innovative ways to reduce animal relinquishment and support long-term solutions to homelessness. By partnering with local communities, they work to ensure every animal receives compassionate, knowledgeable careโ€”and ultimately, a chance at a loving home.

Shannonโ€™s Journey with Pet Alliance

Shannonโ€™s connection to Pet Alliance goes back more than two decades. In 2002, she adopted her first cat from the organizationโ€”an experience she still describes as โ€œthe best investment Iโ€™ve ever made.โ€ That life-changing adoption inspired her to give back to the organization that introduced her to her first four-legged best friend.

What Supporting Pet Alliance Means to Her

For Shannon, volunteering goes far beyond the joy of seeing longtime residents of Pet Alliance finally find their forever homes. She finds equal fulfillment working behind the scenes to ensure every animal has a clean, healthy and comfortable environment while they wait for adoption.

Her volunteer work often includes:

  • Tackling hundreds of pounds of laundry each week so cats have clean bedding
  • Sanitizing more than 50 kennels every Sunday morning to support the health and well-being of dogs in the shelter
  • And of course, enjoying the occasional โ€œdog jogโ€ or cuddle session in the free-roam cat rooms!

Her dedication reflects a deep love for animalsโ€”and a belief that every act of service, no matter how small, makes a meaningful difference.

Massey Team Members Making an Impact

While Shannon currently volunteers on her own, several Massey Services team members have adopted their furry family members from Pet Alliance. Her hope is that, in time, more of her colleagues may join her in supporting the organization through volunteering or community events.

How Others Can Get Involved

Pet Alliance offers many meaningful ways to give back, from hands-on volunteer opportunities to donation drives. One of their biggest annual events, Paws in the Park, takes place every February at Lake Eola. This popular fundraiser brings together pet lovers from all over Central Florida for:

  • Orlandoโ€™s largest pet parade
  • Costume contests
  • Dog sports and demonstrations
  • Local pet-friendly vendors
  • Food trucks

Itโ€™s a fun and impactful event that celebrates the bond between people and their pets while helping raise funds to support animals in need. Adoptable dogs and cats looking for their forever homes are waiting for you!

Shannonโ€™s compassion and dedication are wonderful examples of how Massey Services team members make a difference both in the community and in the lives of those around themโ€”four-legged friends included. Weโ€™re proud to spotlight her efforts and grateful for the positive impact she continues to make through her service with Pet Alliance.
