Get to Know Barry
Q: Who do you admire and why?
A: I admire my father, William Neveras Sr. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at a young age and changed the trajectory of his life and family. He spent 30 years in service to our country and left behind a legacy of service and commitment, as each of his sons served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Q: Your favorite food, that you could eat almost every day?
A: Steak and Lobster! The first time I had lobster I was visiting my maternal grandmother in Cape May, NJ. We walked down to the pier, picked out our own lobsters, took them home, and had a feast! It’s been my favorite food ever since.
Q: What is your favorite movie of all-time?
A: My Favorite movie of all-time is “It’s a Wonderful Life.” I watch it every Christmas Eve with my grown sons (and now their spouses too), and it never fails to be a source of inspiration.
Q: Favorite sports teams?
A: I’ve been a Green Bay Packers fan since I watched the Ice Bowl on TV. Bart Starr was my favorite player growing up. We had an elementary school project where we had to write a letter to a famous person. Then the teacher mailed all the letters. Bart Starr was the only celebrity who answered a letter, and he sent me an autographed picture. My sons and I try to get to Green Bay for a football game at Lambeau Field every other year. I’m also a huge Orlando Magic fan!!!
Q: What three words best describe you?
A: Passionate, Intelligent, and Loyal.
The Career
Q: What made you interested in working for Massey Services?
A: I was running a large, 225 team member, medical equipment manufacturing facility and shortly after 9/11 the plant was shut down and the manufacturing was sent to China. I wanted to remain in Central Florida to stay close to family, my church, and my children’s schools. Tourism was in decline, so I began investigating Service Industry jobs in Central Florida and I found Massey Services.
Q: What does your average workday look like?
A: I arrive at 7:30 am, check email, greet my team members, and begin striving to meet the needs of the Purchasing Department’s customers- our thousands of team members in the field. I spend time interacting with our vendor partners to ensure we build long-term, trusting relationships that ensure we have access to the best products and equipment in our industry, while maintaining the best pricing. Much of the day is spent in meetings or addressing emails. Strategic projects to ensure our company remains the top service company in the industry also fills my day. I work very closely with our Technical Training Department as they design superior Pest Prevention, Termite Protection, and Agronomic Programs.
Q: What is the best part about your job? And why?
A: The relationships. I have extraordinary team member who are all dedicated to servicing their customers. The commitment to service excellence and continuous improvement makes coming to work special. I also have great vendor partners who I have worked with for decades. These loyal relationships ensure our company receives the best pricing and service in the industry, which allows us to meet our mission of being the best service company in the industry.
Q: Which skills have you learned on the job?
A: Negotiations. The past couple of years have been challenging. First there was Covid and the supply chain challenges that followed. And then there was runaway inflation. Through it all we’ve been able to minimize backorders and reduce costs. But it couldn’t be done without an incredible team and loyal vendors.
Q: What do you believe makes your career at Massey Services truly unique?
A: Since I began my Massey career in operations, I understand the impact each decision has on the field. My department is committed to serving our customers and we are always available to answer our phones and do whatever it takes to ensure our technicians and specialists have everything they need to take care of their customers. My position is unique in that I must constantly challenge our vendors to do the impossible (like deliver a product the same day), build loyalty while often delivering bad news (like pulling product from one vendor to another due to pricing and service), and ensure that our vendors feel they are being treated fairly so we can have long-term, trusting relationships. It’s a challenging dynamic, but one that I find very stimulating and fulfilling.
Thank you Barry, for going above and beyond for our customers and being a shining example of why it’s our people that MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
