From Accounting to Leadership: Johayra Crespo’s Inspiring Journey at Massey Services

Johayra Crespo’s career at Massey Services is a testament to dedication, perseverance and continuous growth. Born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Crespo now resides in Oviedo, Florida, with her two children—a Florida Highway Patrol State Trooper and a high-achieving junior in high school. Johayra started with Massey Services in 2010, and over the last 15 years her career has evolved from accounting to her current role. As Director of Facilities Management, Johayra overseas critical aspects of the company’s real estate and property operations.

At this year’s Massey Services’ Eagles Circuit Awards Banquet, Johayra received the prestigious President’s Award—an honor that caught her by surprise. “Receiving the President’s Award was totally unexpected but immensely appreciated,” Crespo said. “It’s an honor, and I am grateful for the trust, opportunities, and challenges my journey has had at Massey. Dedication and persistent effort unfold new possibilities.” The moment was made even more special by the presence of her mother, whom she credits for her unconditional love and support.

As Director of Facilities Management, Crespo’s responsibilities are extensive and dynamic. On any given day, she might be managing property leases, overseeing repairs and maintenance, handling construction projects, or ensuring compliance with licensing requirements. Her role also includes traveling to inspect Massey’s Service Centers, recommending improvements, and scouting potential future office locations. “I visit potential offices to conduct real estate site surveys, design office layouts, evaluate property conditions, and negotiate leases with real estate brokers and landlords,” she explained.

Crespo’s introduction to Massey Services came through an interview with recruiter Al Feliciano for an accounting position after moving from Puerto Rico to Florida. Her career trajectory took off from there. “The opportunities to grow came over time; here we are today,” she reflected.

Just seven months after joining the company, she transitioned to the Fleet department, where she managed the administrative operations of 1,500 company vehicles while supporting Vice President of Fleet & Assets, Eric Hernandez. Under his mentorship, she expanded her expertise into real estate and property management. In 2018, she took a significant step forward by establishing the Facilities department, a move that streamlined operations for Service Center managers and allowed them to focus more on customer service.

For Crespo, one of the most rewarding aspects of her career is the strong sense of community and support at Massey Services. “I am proud to be a Massey team member because, as a family-owned corporation, they have always treated their personnel like their own family,” she shared. She also expressed deep gratitude for the guidance and encouragement of Eric Hernandez, emphasizing the importance of leadership in fostering a thriving work environment.

Crespo’s career at Massey Services is a reflection of the company’s culture of mentorship and growth. “A company with 40 years of profitable growth and opportunities to teach and lead its team members is exceptional,” she said. She attributes her loyalty to the appreciation she has for Hernandez and the company, embodying the leadership principle: ‘A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.
