* Discarded Wings. Often present after a swarm, they are typically found in small piles near window ledges and other light sources.

* Mud Tubes and/or Tunnels. Because they prefer dark, moist conditions, foraging termites construct mud tubes as protective runways from the earth to the wood inside a home. Look for mud tubes along the foundation of your home, around doors and windows and on wood posts.

* Small Holes in Wood or Drywall or Blistered Paint. When termites swarm within your home, they often create small exit holes. Because termites eat wood products from the inside out, they usually hollow the wood along the grain. This can cause ripples in the exterior of the wood itself, or cause the paint to blister.

* Structural Damage. This could include soft spots in walls, sagging floors, loose trim and cracked plaster. Also, check for “hollow” sounding wall studs.

We are pleased to announce the promotion of Ed Dougherty to Executive Vice President of Consumer Services for Massey Services. In this role, Ed will oversee all residential Service Center operations.

Ed has been a pest management professional for approximately 26 years, and he has worked for Massey Services for approximately 18 years. Prior to assuming his new position, Ed has served as the Vice President and Division Manager for Massey Services’ GreenUP Division as well as Vice President and Regional Manager of the Central Florida and Georgia regions.

“Ed has consistently demonstrated his commitment to service excellence and the growth of our company,” said Tony Massey. “His contributions within Massey Services span all aspects of our company, from residential pest prevention to commercial service to lawn care and irrigation.”

Ed began his career in the pest management industry after he received his B.B.A. in Marketing from Eastern Michigan University in 1984. He completed the Harvard Business School OPM Key Executives Program in 2004. He remains involved in the Central Florida community through commitment to Junior Achievement, Leadership Orlando and Florida Citrus Sports.

The holiday season is quickly approaching and I can’t wait to purchase gifts and decorate my house for the holidays! Plus, with guests coming over, I was thinking it gives me time to tidy up and maybe even buy a few new things for my own home for decoration.

Then, the other day I heard an unbelievable story about a termite infestation inside a home that made me really think about what I am buying and bringing inside.  A woman bought some new baskets and decorative items to brighten up her home before her holiday guests began arriving. The items were made of wood and unbeknownst to the owner, they were infested with termites.  She started noticing small piles of dust around the wood floors of her home within a few months of the purchase but couldn’t figure out what it was.

After about one year of a growing problem, she finally contacted us and we discovered a complete termite infestation in her home – all caused from this one little purchase!

Now, I’m not saying I won’t decorate my home or buy anything new, but I’ll definitely be inspecting anything made of wood for traces of termite damage. Massey Films new "My Guy" TV Spots

Massey Services, an industry leader in the pest prevention, termite protection and lawn care industry with locations throughout Florida, Georgia and Louisiana, has launched a new television advertising campaign known as “My Guy Doesn’t Do That!” featuring the first television debut of Massey Services’ GreenUP landscape services. This new advertising direction for Massey Services utilizes humor and “slice of life” story telling that sets Massey Services apart from the rest.
Each commercial reflects a similar storyline which involves two neighbors: one as a Massey Services customer and the other who uses a competitor. Envy ensues when the less fortunate neighbor realizes, through some humorously conspicuous spying, that she is not receiving the same great benefits from her service company that the Massey Services customer enjoys. In the end, she exclaims to her neighbor, “My guy doesn’t do any of that!” The Massey customer responds back with, “Well, maybe you’ve got the wrong guy!”

In partnership with David Nixon Productions (DNP Studios) and Massey Communications, Massey Services’ marketing department strategically developed the new ad campaign theme. DNP Studios, an industry leader in full-service film, high-definition video production and new media innovations, provided state-of-the-art production and post-production services for the commercials, as well as scriptwriting, assistance with concept development and casting talented actors.
“We are excited to launch this new ad campaign which reinforces our commitment to total customer satisfaction,” said Lynne Frederick, Vice President of Marketing at Massey Services. “We are confident this ad campaign will educate viewers on the benefits they receive from being a Massey Services customer and hope they enjoy the fresh and funny perspective of our new spots.”
The new ad campaign will continue to air now through October 2009. The commercials incorporate cable and network television advertising in 12 markets including, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Atlanta, Georgia, and the following cities in Florida: Orlando, Jacksonville, Naples, Tampa, West Palm Beach, Tallahassee, Sarasota and The Villages.

Massey shoots new television spots and, for the first time ever, features Massey’s GreenUP Landscape Services on TV! Completing shooting this week, the new spots had no short order to fill: feature what Massey does differently and get noticed on TV. So how do you do that on TV today? Let us introduce….Barbara and “My Guy Doesn’t Do That!”

The star of our new television spots, Barbara, a nosey neighbor, can be seen in varying places spying on a Massey GreenUP Landscape Specialist servicing her neighbor’s landscape. With every shrub inspection, aeration and irrigation maintenance technique she sees, she exclaims, “My guy doesn’t do that!” When her neighbor catches her spying she states, “Well…maybe you’ve got the wrong guy!”

The new commercial will start running in all Florida and Louisiana markets beginning Monday, 4/20/09. It will air in conjunction with our new Pest spot so be sure to look out for both!

Every year, termites cause millions of dollars in damage to homes in the US, damage that is not covered by homeowners insurance.  These tiny insects find cellulose material in any home construction type, including brick and steel framed homes.

Subterranean termites reside in the soil and can form tunnels, called mud tubes, up the base of the foundation and get into homes.  Once in the home, they tunnel their way into baseboards and wall studs without you even knowing.  Subterranean termites can also gain entry through plumbing openings in bathrooms and kitchens.

Drywood termites live in the wood they eat and find their way into homes through cracks and gaps in the eaves.  Once in the home, they are typically found in attics or rafters.

In both cases, termites eat wood from the inside out and most homeowners don’t know they have termites until the damage is discovered.
