Massey to Purchase Sunair Services

Harvey L. Massey, Chairman and CEO of Massey Services, Inc. is pleased to announce it has reached a definitive agreement to purchase Sunair Services Corporation (SNR-AMEX) including its subsidiary, Middleton Lawn & Pest Control, Inc. Massey Services is a privately held company.

“The addition of Middleton’s employees and customer base in both the pest and lawn segments will move our company to a new level in our industry,” said Harvey Massey. “They’ve been an outstanding competitor over the years and have some great people. The integration of their team members and customers into our service system will have a powerful and positive impact on our operations.”

Before the acquisition, Massey Services had approximately 800 team members, 700 vehicles and just under 200,000 customers, being serviced out of 61 service centers throughout Florida, Georgia and Louisiana. With consolidated operational revenues of $77.5 million in 2008, Massey Services was ranked the 12th largest organization in its industry by Pest Control Technology (PCT) Magazine. Middleton was ranked 13th on the PCT list with $57.6 million in revenues and 26 service centers, all in Florida.

“Our operations overlap in many markets where we compete head to head,” said Mr. Massey. “Over the next sixty to ninety days, we’ll finalize all of the administrative and operations issues before us. We plan to begin 2010 as a deeper and stronger company, but with the same emphasis we’ve always had on operational excellence and providing total customer satisfaction.”

Middleton Lawn & Pest Control was established in 1952 and was sold to Sunair in 2005. In 1985, Harvey L. Massey purchased the Walker Chemical & Exterminating Company which was founded in 1930. Massey Services will celebrate its 25th year of uninterrupted growth in February 2010.

Massey Services, an industry leader in the pest prevention, termite protection and lawn care industry with locations throughout Florida, Georgia and Louisiana, has launched a new television advertising campaign known as “My Guy Doesn’t Do That!” featuring the first television debut of Massey Services’ GreenUP landscape services. This new advertising direction for Massey Services utilizes humor and “slice of life” story telling that sets Massey Services apart from the rest.
Each commercial reflects a similar storyline which involves two neighbors: one as a Massey Services customer and the other who uses a competitor. Envy ensues when the less fortunate neighbor realizes, through some humorously conspicuous spying, that she is not receiving the same great benefits from her service company that the Massey Services customer enjoys. In the end, she exclaims to her neighbor, “My guy doesn’t do any of that!” The Massey customer responds back with, “Well, maybe you’ve got the wrong guy!”

In partnership with David Nixon Productions (DNP Studios) and Massey Communications, Massey Services’ marketing department strategically developed the new ad campaign theme. DNP Studios, an industry leader in full-service film, high-definition video production and new media innovations, provided state-of-the-art production and post-production services for the commercials, as well as scriptwriting, assistance with concept development and casting talented actors.
“We are excited to launch this new ad campaign which reinforces our commitment to total customer satisfaction,” said Lynne Frederick, Vice President of Marketing at Massey Services. “We are confident this ad campaign will educate viewers on the benefits they receive from being a Massey Services customer and hope they enjoy the fresh and funny perspective of our new spots.”
The new ad campaign will continue to air now through October 2009. The commercials incorporate cable and network television advertising in 12 markets including, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Atlanta, Georgia, and the following cities in Florida: Orlando, Jacksonville, Naples, Tampa, West Palm Beach, Tallahassee, Sarasota and The Villages.

Now My Guy is a Massey Technician

Massey shoots new television spots and, for the first time ever, features Massey’s GreenUP Landscape Services on TV! Completing shooting this week, the new spots had no short order to fill: feature what Massey does differently and get noticed on TV. So how do you do that on TV today? Let us introduce….Barbara and “My Guy Doesn’t Do That!”

The star of our new television spots, Barbara, a nosey neighbor, can be seen in varying places spying on a Massey GreenUP Landscape Specialist servicing her neighbor’s landscape. With every shrub inspection, aeration and irrigation maintenance technique she sees, she exclaims, “My guy doesn’t do that!” When her neighbor catches her spying she states, “Well…maybe you’ve got the wrong guy!”

The new commercial will start running in all Florida and Louisiana markets beginning Monday, 4/20/09. It will air in conjunction with our new Pest spot so be sure to look out for both!

Massey Services Announces New Management Changes

Tony Massey, President and Chief Operating Officer of Massey Services, an industry leader in pest prevention, termite protection and lawn care with locations in Florida, Georgia and Louisiana, recently announced four management changes designed for continued expansion of business and to deliver exceptional customer service.

  • Ed Dougherty has been appointed to the position of Vice President, GreenUP Landscape Services. Dougherty joined Massey Services in 1992, having served previously as Vice President and Regional Manager of the Central, Georgia and Villages Regions.
  • Rick Beard, who recently rejoined Massey Services, has been promoted to Regional Manager for the Central Region. Beard began his career with Massey in 1990 as a Regional Manager and through the years held various positions in upper management. Beard left Massey Services in 2004 to pursue other business opportunities and returned in early 2009.
  • Tony DiBerardino has been appointed to the position of Regional Manager, West Region. DiBerardino has served in the role of Division Manager, GreenUP Division, for Massey Services since 2006.
  • Howard Stepleman has been named Director of Sales. Stepleman has been with Massey Services since 1996. His most recent role was as Regional Manager for the West Region.

“These appointments of key team members will position Massey Services to take better advantage of the current market and overall business opportunities, positioning us for continued growth,” said Tony Massey. “I am confident these changes will align Massey’s finest talent with our greatest opportunities, making it possible for us to expand our focus and continue to provide outstanding customer service.”

Harvey Massey Recognized With James B. Green Award from Metro Orlando EDC

Local business leader and philanthropist, Harvey L. Massey,CEO and founder of Orlando-based Massey Services, Inc., has been named recipient of the 2009 James B. Greene Economic Development Award by the MetroOrlando Economic Development Commission (EDC).

The James B. Greene Economic Development Award, first presented in 1990, is the highest honor bestowed by the EDC. The award recognizes an individual whose efforts have contributed substantially to the economic vitality of the region.

“I’m deeply moved by this tremendous recognition from the Orlando EDC,” said Mr. Massey. “We have been blessed since we began our business here in Orlando24 years ago. We are proud to count many of Central Florida’s finest as Team Members and to have made a positive impact on the local economy.”

Mr. Massey will be recognized at the annual awards dinner, to be held on March 18, 2009 in Orlando, Florida. Since 1990, the EDC has bestowed 19 leaders in Central Florida with the James B. Greene Economic Development Award.

“Harvey Massey undoubtedly embodies the spirit of this award,” said Metro Orlando EDC Chairman and Orlando Health CEO, John Hillenmeyer. “He is a community leader who has significantly contributed to MetroOrlando’s economic well-being and has demonstrated extensive community service.”

Harvey Massey Named Junior Achievement Hall of Fame Laureate

Local business leader and philanthropist, Harvey L. Massey,CEO and founder of Orlando-based Massey Services, Inc., has been inducted as a Laureate into the Junior Achievement Mid-Florida Business Hall of Fame.

The Junior Achievement banquet, held on Nov, 20, 2008 at the Rosen Centre Hotel in Orlando, Florida,has honored some of the top business and community leaders in Central Florida for the past 30 years. More than 1,300 guests attended the event, which attracted many past recipients and their colleagues. Also honored as 2008 Hall of Fame Laureates were Alan Ginsburg of CED Companies and the late William C. France of NASCAR. University of Central Florida President John C. Hitt was bestowed the Spirit of Achievement Award.

“I’m deeply honored to share this recognition with distinguished leaders such as Dr. John Hitt, Alan Ginsberg, and the late Bill France, Jr., a truly remarkable group of community and business leaders,” said Mr. Massey. “Over the years, I’ve learned that one of the singular and absolute truths in business, as well as in life, is that no one scales the business mountain and stays there for any period of time without the help, hard work,support and encouragement of a lot of generous and unselfish people who keep you moving along the way. I am thankful for the support of my family and am proud of our Massey Services team members and all they have given back to Junior Achievement.”

Massey Services has been supporting Junior Achievement for over 20 years. Tony Massey, President and COO of Massey Services, is currently serving on the Board of Directors, and many of the Massey Services team members are involved through projects teaching throughout the community. Massey Services Recognized By National Hispanic Corporate Achievers

Massey Services is proud to announce their recognition as “Employer Of the Year” by the National Corporate Hispanic Achievers.

“We value Massey Services’ continuous support toward diversity efforts and appreciate the strides they take to provide career opportunities,especially to minorities,” said Lisa M. Pietri, President of Diversity Career Fairs. “The percentage of minorities in their workforce, the involvement they have in the minority community and the leadership they have shown in diversity makes them an example to other companies and organizations.”

The award was presented by Lisa Pietri at the Annual Diversity Employers Awards Luncheon on Friday, October 24, 2008 at the Florida Hotel and Conference Center in Orlando, Florida. Massey Services was represented by Christine Mason-Brah, Director of Human Resources; Jenny Haget, Marketing Manager; Rebecca Church, Marketing Manager; Andrea Massey-Farrell, Vice-President of Operations and Administration for Massey Communications; and Al Feliciano, Staffing Specialist.

Al Feliciano has worked closely with the National Corporate Hispanic Achievers organization for several years; he has participated in all seven job fairs held in Florida in 2008 and donates his time in the evenings working with minorities to help identify their skill sets for proper job placement.

Darnell Chambers Selected as a Termidor® All-Star Technician

BASF, the manufacturer of Termidor Termite Defense, recently selected Darnell Chambers of Massey Services as a Termidor All-Star Technician. The All-Star Technician nominees were chosen based on their demonstration of superior product knowledge, outstanding service to customers, drive and motivation to go above and beyond the job function and commitment to professionalism, among other criteria. A total of 16 national winners were chosen in this third annual competition. The panel of judges was comprised of senior BASF personnel from the marketing, sales and technical groups.

Chambers is based in Massey’s Southeast Orlando Service Center and has been recognized for his dedication, skill and expertise as an exceptional pest professional. Chambers and 15 other grand prize winners will receive the VIP treatment as honored guests of BASF at the 2008 Dickies 500 Stock Car Race on November 2nd in Fort Worth, Texas. Technicians will also be featured online and in Termidor marketing efforts throughout the year.
