Local business leader and philanthropist, Harvey L. Massey,
CEO and founder of Orlando-based Massey Services, Inc., has been inducted as a
Laureate into the Junior Achievement Mid-Florida Business Hall of Fame.
The Junior Achievement banquet, held on Nov, 20, 2008 at the
Rosen Centre Hotel in Orlando, Florida,
has honored some of the top business and community leaders in Central
Florida for the past 30 years. More than 1,300 guests attended the
event, which attracted many past recipients and their colleagues. Also honored
as 2008 Hall of Fame Laureates were Alan Ginsburg of CED Companies and the late
William C. France of NASCAR. University of Central Florida President John C. Hitt was bestowed
the Spirit of Achievement Award.
"I’m deeply honored to share this recognition with
distinguished leaders such as Dr. John Hitt, Alan Ginsberg, and the late Bill
France, Jr., a truly remarkable group of community and business leaders,” said
Mr. Massey. “Over the years, I’ve learned that one of the singular and absolute
truths in business, as well as in life, is that no one scales the business
mountain and stays there for any period of time without the help, hard work,
support and encouragement of a lot of generous and unselfish people who keep
you moving along the way. I am thankful
for the support of my family and am proud of our Massey Services team members
and all they have given back to Junior Achievement.”
Massey Services has been supporting Junior Achievement for
over 20 years. Tony Massey, President and COO of Massey Services, is
currently serving on the Board of Directors, and many of the Massey Services
team members are involved through projects teaching throughout the
community. In addition, Massey team members contribute to JA through an
annual Bowl-A-Thon event every spring.

Massey Services is proud to announce that Termite Training
and Technical Director, Ed Blumenthal, was named a 2008 recipient of the Pest
Control Technology (PCT) Magazine and Syngenta Professional Products Crown
Leadership Award. Each year, PCT Magazine and Syngenta honor industry leaders who
have contributed positively to the pest management industry’s growth with the
Crown Leadership Award. The award recipients are chosen based on their
exceptional contributions to their company and community and their commitment
to uphold the highest standards of industry ethics, and personal integrity. Blumenthal is credited for the extensive work he has done on
termite baiting processes. He developed operational protocols and procedures
that taught Massey Services Team Members not only the science of how termite baits
work but the art of maintaining and managing the quality assurance of baiting
programs. In addition, his tremendous
ability to teach, as well as educate the media and the community about termite
prevention and protection, has been a key asset for Massey Services and the
pest management industry nationally. “One of Ed’s greatest attributes is his ability to teach,”
explains Adam Jones, Vice President/Director of Quality Assurance for Massey
Services. “He is one of the most respected teachers in our industry." Blumenthal has served in the pest management and lawn care
industry for more than 19 years and at Massey Services for 10 years, specializing
in termite and wood destroying organism (WDO) protection. His responsibilities include
managing the quality assurance of all termite activities for Massey Services.
He oversees 61 individual service centers in Florida,
Georgia and Louisiana in a technical
capacity, and he also creates and writes all termite and WDO training programs,
treating protocols, manuals and procedures. In addition, Blumenthal conducts
study classes for applicants taking state certification exams in termite and
fumigation. Ed Blumenthal will be recognized during a special ceremony at
PestWorld, the National Pest Management Association’s (NPMA) convention, to be
held October 22 through 25, 2008, at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention
Center in National Harbor, Maryland. PCT Magazine will host a reception
for him and other award recipients. Ed will also be profiled in PCT Magazine’s October

Industry leader to introduce bed bug solution at PestWorld conference
in D.C.
Massey Services, a leading service provider in the pest
management industry, and Chromalox, a leading manufacturer of precision heat
and control products, have recently joined forces to introduce the most
innovative bed bug remediation solution in the industry. The ThermEx program
will be unveiled at the 2008 National Pest Management Association’s annual PestWorld
conference in October. This partnership matches
the engineering and design capabilities of Chromalox with the pest management program
development and training expertise of Massey Services.
Given the dramatic rise in bed bug infestation cases
affecting hotels, college dormitories, hospitals, nursing homes, military bases
and more, this partnership to develop a revolutionary bed bug heat remediation
program has come at the right time. The comprehensive ThermEx treatment package
includes a custom heating unit, manufactured by Chromalox, plus sophisticated technical
training provided by Massey Services, the company who created the pest
prevention service model that has successfully swept the pest management
industry.
Research has shown that heat is a more effective method for treating
bed bugs rather than residual products.
This is due to the bed bugs’ ability to hide in every crack and crevice
in a room. Additionally, it is difficult to apply a product that will reach the
entire bed bug population and residual products will not affect the eggs. A
heat remediation treatment typically only takes 48 hours to eliminate an entire
bed bug population while a residual treatment can take up to 12 weeks to work
effectively.
“We have focused on the development of a complete bed bug treatment
for hotels and multi-unit housing to resolve the ongoing bed bug problem,” said
Tom Jarzynka, Technical and Training Director for Massey Services PrevenTech
Commercial Pest Prevention division. “Our strategic partnership places both
companies in a unique position to serve both the pest management industry and residential,
hospitality and health care property owners/managers.”
Massey Services and Chromalox will host a hospitality suite
and booth at PestWorld, held October 22 through 25, 2008 in WashingtonD.C.,
to demonstrate and discuss the ThermEx program.
